What Is Children’s Ministry?

Children are introduced to Jesus and His story through the process of children’s ministry.

Children’s ministry is a process

  • Over time, it’s assisting kids in becoming more like Jesus. Children must complete a number of steps or actions in order to accomplish the goal.
  • When we invite kids to connect with Jesus and His Story, the process gets started. As Jesus’ grace and splendor are made manifest, it progresses.
  • The procedure is designed to help kids renounce loyalty to the world and become steadfast followers of Jesus.
  • It occurs as youngsters are animated by God’s Story and filled with the Holy Spirit.

That connects children with Jesus

  • The ministry to children is interpersonal.
  • It takes place when kids meet Jesus, or when they become more and more enamored with Him.
  • Children who experience the majesty, wonder, and beauty of Jesus experience the beginning of their relationship with Him as they sincerely embrace Him in their hearts and give their life to Him alone. It develops when people follow His teachings and glorify Him.
  • This relationship with Jesus is the foundation of children’s ministry. In other words, Jesus is the reason why children’s ministry exists.

That connects children with His Story

  • The ministry to children is informed.
  • It calls for kids to actively participate in God’s Story, receive it, and retell it.
  • Children’s lives are given significance and value as they embrace God’s Story.
  • When a child’s story is combined with and rearranged by God’s Story, it starts. It grows as kids learn to immerse themselves in the entire story and let themselves be consumed by it. Additionally, it develops when kids obey and apply the story to their daily lives.
  • Children’s ministry is framed and shaped by this link to God’s Story. In other words, Jesus reveals Himself to children through God’s Story, which serves as its foundation and unifying message.

What’s the goal of children’s ministry?

We must be careful to avoid reducing children’s ministry to something it should not be in light of the aforementioned concept. It’s more than what happens at a midweek or Sunday church service, more than Christian life, and more than spiritual development. It’s more than parents reading the Bible to their kids or praying with them.

The purpose of children’s ministry isn’t necessarily to teach Bible tales, prepare kids for community of faith participation, instill moral values in kids, or promote kids’ spiritual development. The focus of children’s ministry is mostly on Jesus. Children are being helped to recognize Jesus as their King and become members of His kingdom. And this is only possible when, in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, we teach youngsters how to completely abandon all connections to the world and pledge their loyalty to the One who underwent the cross, conquered death, and made life and immortality known through the gospel.

Colossians 1:17 states that “in him, all things (including children’s ministry) hold together.” The one who plans and oversees children’s ministry is Jesus. He is the heart and soul of children’s ministry. He is the one who organizes it and gives it shape. Jesus must therefore be at the center of how we define children’s ministry; otherwise, it isn’t children’s ministry.

Developing a Children’s Ministry

This essay aims to offer suggestions for developing a successful children’s ministry in churches. It begins with a broad overview before addressing particular requirements. Its bibliography includes a wide range of useful sources for further reading on children’s ministry.

The Lord has blessed us with children. These rewards come with obligations. Parents have a duty to foster their children’s physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development as stewards of God’s children. Additionally, churches have a duty to take care of children by giving them access to a secure setting where they can learn at an age-appropriate level and are encouraged to form a connection with Jesus Christ.

Through a children’s ministry program, we serve the spiritual needs of kids. Given how many young people reach maturity and choose not to follow Christ, it is clear that this program is necessary. They weren’t ready to receive him as their Savior. This is due, in part, to certain churches lacking a successful children’s ministry.

We’ll start out by talking about the objectives of children’s ministry. These provide a general summary of our work. They also provide us with a benchmark for assessing the success of the initiatives we already have and deciding whether or not to add more.

Why a Children’s Ministry?

The gospel of Jesus Christ is preached by the church. We work hard to convey the message and to create a setting in which it will be well-received. When someone accepts the gospel, receives Christ into their lives, and unites with his body, the church, Christians are ecstatic. We celebrate the addition of new members to the church as well as the emergence of prospective members who foster church expansion.
